One of the hallmarks of Catholic education is studying the saints. At St. John the Baptist School in Vermillion, for 20 years, every 3rd grade student has enjoyed the annual rite of passage, completing a saint project. The project requires students to complete research about the saint’s life, their ministry, special devotions, typical religious habit or dress, perhaps their beautification and canonization, and history during their lifetime. Recently, our 3rd grade class gave their formal presentations to an audience of schoolmates, parents, grandparents and special guests. Perhaps you might recognize St. Luke, St. Kateri Tekakwitha, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, St. Mary-Mother of God, St. Padre Pio, St. Damien of Molokai, St. Katherine Drexel, St. Faustina, St. Jerome and Mary Magdalen.
