Maria Therres

I treasure my time at St. John’s, both as a student (class of 1987) and now as a teacher.  I started teaching second grade at St. John’s in 1998.  Vermillion township has always been my home and my family is a founding member of St. John the Baptist Church.  The family farm, Meadowbrook Farm, celebrated its sesquicentennial in 2017.  I currently serve on the board of trustees for the Dakota County Historical Society and write articles for the monthly DCHS e-newsletter.

I am a graduate of Hastings High School, UW-Stout in Menomonie, WI, and St. Mary’s University in Winona.  My favorite subject area is social studies, especially American history.  I was named the Junior Achievement of the Upper Midwest Elementary Teacher of the Year in 2014.  I am the St. John’s School coordinator of Junior Achievement and Picturing America.

I have played the piano since the second grade, am a lifelong traveler (having visited 39 states and nineteen countries), and enjoy watching baseball at all levels, especially my godson and his brothers.  My favorite softball memory is traveling to Baltimore to watch my Godson win the Junior Wheelchair Softball World Series.
